Scottish Mental Health Minister, Clare Haughey, visited Craigroyston Primary School in Edinburgh as part of Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health Week.

The Minister met with pupils and staff at the school, and learned more about the mental health support provided by Place2Be for pupils, families and staff. Craigroyston Primary has been a partner school of Place2Be since 2004 and is one of 12 schools that Place2Be work in across Edinburgh.

Clare Haughey said:

“I’m grateful to the teachers and pupils of Craigroyston Primary School for having me here during Children’s Mental Health Week to hear more about the work they do. Schools have a vital role to play in supporting the mental wellbeing of children and young people and this work is helping their pupils to achieve positive mental health and wellbeing.

Place2Be has offered child mental health support in Scotland since 2001 and currently reaches over 14,000 pupils and their families in 45 schools.

Lucy Cooper, Acting Headteacher at Craigroyston Primary School said:

“Place2Be is an amazing part of our school community. It has proved to be a huge support to the school and our families by offering a safe therapeutic space where children can work through their problems and learn to manage their emotions. Place2Be has been part of our school for nearly 16 years and we value this partnership in promoting the health and wellbeing of the youngsters in our school.”

During the visit, pupils also enjoyed a puppet show about bravery, to tie in with the theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week, #FindYourBrave.
