Unlock your potential with our child counselling Taster Day course, your first step in becoming a qualified child counsellor with Place2Be. Whether you're an aspiring counsellor or just interested in the profession, this course is open to all and will introduce you to working therapeutically with children and young people.
During your Taster Day, you'll gain insight into Place2Be's unique therapeutic approach, developed through over 30 years of experience working in schools. We'll also provide you with an overview of our counselling training courses that will help prepare you for a fulfilling career as a child counsellor.

- you're interested in gaining valuable insight into what it's like to be a child counsellor and the counselling profession as a whole from our expert tutors

Price
The price for our Taster Day is £105, which you’ll need to pay when you book.
Sponsorship of course fees
If your course fees are being paid on your behalf by a sponsor organisation (e.g., your employer, a government department, a charity) or you have an organisational grant, please get in touch with our Taster Day team by filling out an enquiry form before booking. We’ll invoice your sponsor organisation and send you a discount code you can use to complete your booking online.
Course details
Structure
Our Taster Day is made up of two modules. After joining us in-person, you will be eligible to apply for one of Place2Be's counselling courses.
Module 1: E-learning session
Module 1 is an interactive online introduction to our counselling training qualifications. You’ll learn about:
- our therapeutic approach and work in schools
- how to become a qualified child counsellor with our counselling training qualifications.
The module should take you two hours to complete. We recommend you complete Module 1 before attending your Module 2 in-person classroom workshop. Please note, the tutor will not be covering any of the content of Module 1 during Module 2.
Module 2: In-person classroom workshop
Module 2 classroom workshops are held at one of our training venues in London or Manchester. The workshop is where you'll put what you learned in Module 1 into action. You’ll learn about:
- key concepts in child counselling
- communicating through therapeutic play
- planning the next steps of your training journey.
Please check the start and end timing of your preferred in-person workshop date. Sessions running from 10am include both a short break and a 45-minute lunch break. Please note that tea and coffee is provided but not lunch.

Taster Day in-person workshops are held at:

- Manchester: ESEA, 13 Thomas Street, M4 1EU
Progression to other courses
Which course you progress to after completing your Taster Day will depend on where you are in your training journey and your previous training or experience. Options include our:
- Introduction to Child Counselling Skills (Level 2 Award) if you have no prior counselling training experience or qualifications
- Intermediate Child Counselling Skills (Level 3 Certificate) if you’ve completed a Level 2 counselling qualification* elsewhere
- Level 4 Diploma in School-Based Child Counselling if you've completed a Level 3 counselling qualification* elsewhere, or are eligible for a Level 4 bursary
- Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy for Children and Young People in Schools if you’ve completed a Level 3 qualification* elsewhere.

Entry requirements
You don't need any previous experience or formal qualifications to attend our Taster Day. The main thing is that you’re passionate about helping to improve children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
How to book
To book your Taster Day, please head to the bottom of this page and select a location and date that work for you. You'll then be taken to our booking form, where we'll ask for more details and your payment information.
Please note the date you choose when booking via our website will be when your in-person workshop (Module 2) takes place. Please make sure you book onto a date you can attend as once bookings are made, transfers and cancellations are only available in certain circumstances, in line with our Terms and Conditions.
Once your booking is complete, you'll receive a confirmation email from us with important information about next steps.
